 Margaret Sugar

Welcome to Margaret Sugar's website. This is a celebration of Margie's life & impact on so many people over the years.

On August 8th, Margie was diagnosed with an aggressive, rare (poorly-differentiated neuroendocrine) cancer which ended her life on October 14th. Margie remained positive and content through her illness. Realistic about not fighting it, instead she continued to connect with her many friends and family, setting another example on how to live our own lives in the face of adversity, with serenity & peace.

Margie lived her life large, set a model for us all, and we should cherish our time with her. Feel free to browse all the blogs, look at some photos, or enter your brief comments, or longer remembrances.

Headed Out Today

River & John are headed back to Vashon Island (outside Seattle) today, after a delightful month here in Boulder. Margie has made the trip out a very engaging, productive, soulful experience. I'm surprised it hasn't been more sad or emotional (though there have been moments!), but Margie's clear wishes for herself, and her contentment with her passage, has set a positive tone throughout. Her path is not one I'd chose for her, but she is content and clear about her own path - and has a bit more wisdom than I, which I just need to respect.

It has been a blessing for the whole family to be able to say our peace with Mom and cherish these last weeks with her. I'm hoping to come back by Thanksgiving, P1016272.croppedand spend more time with her then.

I'd also like to extend a huge note of appreciation for Anne, Arvadus & Grace's generous accommodation of me this past month in their charming bungalow. Abby has done much to help me out and and times with Bob, Dave & Anna, Tait & Sara, Elizabeth & Keith, Bill and Taya have been way too brief but great. Thank you all.

Fortunately Mom will not be lonely this next month!  Just back from her gig in Paonia, Abby will be around for the next month or more, Mom's dear friends Shep, Gay and Marian will be in starting tomorrow, Peter & Jill come in for a week or two this Saturday, and then sister Elisabeth is likely to come out for a spell. And of course Anne continues throughout to provide the mainstay of support and continuity for Margie. Margie just may have to kick us all out again so she can enjoy her privacy!
